Minutes of Oswestry Chamber of Commerce meeting 4 July 2012
The Vice Chairman welcomed members to the meeting.
Working together to help business
Hilary Richardson & Jude Robinson
Hilary and Jude explained to members how they have worked together to help each other and generated business as a result of the relationship. Their presentation included a discussion about how Twitter had specifically enabled them to communicate with a wider audience and the benefits it brought to their businesses. A handout about using Twitter was available for members at the meeting.
Town plans for Christmas
A management committee member told those present that an event is being planned for 15th December 2012 with the aim of being a vibrant festival, similar to ‘take to the streets’; there is also planned, a Christmas Window competition.
The Swifts Project
Sarah Gibson of Shropshire Wildlife Trust talked passionately about Swifts and their importance, along with what can be done by the local community, including businesses, new buildings and schools to encourage this enigmatic bird population in Oswestry and how this could attract interest from tourism.
National Play Day – 1 August 12pm
Neil Philips from Oswestry is attempting to wear a different T-shirt every day this year; each with a different comment on that he has heard people say; many of the comments are quite interesting and bizarre; he will run a six monthly event the next of which is 13 July at Iron Works to display the T-shirts.
Ingrid Knowles explained to members about the apprenticeship project in Oswestry and invited anyone interested in getting involved to contact the Chamber. Next meeting 11 July.
Heather Noble mentioned the food festival in Oswestry, taking place on 7 and 8 July. Also mentioned the existence of Shropshire Jelly for people to work together regularly for a day per month at Lion Quays; bringing laptops, etc and to share ideas and get a free swim!
Next Chamber meeting is Wednesday 1 August, 6 pm.
