Minutes of Oswestry Chamber of Commerce meeting 2 May 2012
The Chairman, Martin Anderson (MA) welcomed members to the meeting.
Keith Barrow was due to speak at the meeting but had sent his apologies.
Each attendee introduced themselves to the meeting and explained why they were involved with Oswestry Chamber of Commerce.
Portas Bid Update
MA gave the group an update and more detail about what the bid involved. This sparked a discussion about the town. Some members felt that it is the perception of those that have been living in the town for many years that needs to change as it can sometimes be negative.
John Waine (JW) spoke to members about current tourism plans and issues. 2.2m visit North Shropshire each year; of this 700k visit Oswestry bringing £43m into the Towns economy.
In June there will be a tourism workshop; contact JW for further details.
There are quite a number of plans ongoing regarding tourism involving collaboration and co-promotion.
Events coming up
Chronicle Business club will now be 1st week in July not June.
