Oswestry Chamber of Commerce elected a new Executive Committee and Chairman at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting at the Wynnstay Hotel last night [Wednesday 1st April].

Cllr. Paul Milner, from Oswestry Town Council, presided over the election process, acting as independent verifier. The following members were elected to the Executive:
Chairman: Jools Payne from The Jools Payne Partnership
Treasurer: Andrew Clarke, Morris Cook Chartered Accountants

Executive Committee: Mark Dereham from Bridge Coffee, Neil Jenkins from Twelve Green Bottles, Clive Knowles from The British Ironwork Centre, Heather Noble from Salt Solutions and Sarah Probert, Head of Business Studies at Walford and North Shropshire College.

Newly elected Chairman, Jools Payne, said: “Oswestry Chamber of Commerce actively champions the town’s thriving business community. It provides a platform for sharing best practice and business intelligence amongst Chamber members and the wider community. We have built a strong and influential voice on matters affecting Oswestry’s economic health and wellbeing.

“The town and businesses operating within it face significant challenges in the year ahead, not least of which is a growing retail ribbon developing apace on the edge of town. The Chamber is committed to working really hard on behalf of our membership to effectively scrutinise the decision-making of town and county councillors. We will hold them to account where appropriate, and robustly champion the town centre’s fantastic independent retail offering, tourism value, its strong and growing business community and vibrant arts and civic enterprises.

“Retiring Chairman Heather Noble has worked valiantly to develop a good dialogue with key decision makers over her tenure. My personal goal is to build on Heather’s great work, further developing the Chamber’s strategic priorities and enhancing our communications so that the people of Oswestry receive wholly accurate and timely information on all of our activities.”

Oswestry Chamber of Commerce meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 6pm to 8pm at The Wynnstay Hotel in Church Street, Oswestry. Visitors are warmly welcomed. One hour is dedicated to information sharing and the second to informal networking. Membership of the Oswestry Chamber of Commerce is £25 per annum, which includes a website listing, monthly member meetings, occasional seminars and business promotion opportunities.
