September 22, 2011 by oswestrychamberoftrade

Oswestry could be a Walkers are Welcome centre

Find out more at an introductory meeting on Tuesday 11th October at 7.00 pm in the Guildhall on Bailey Head, Oswestry

‘Walkers are Welcome’ is a high status national ‘badge’ scheme for towns and their surrounding area that go that extra mile to attract and make life especially good for visiting and local walkers.

The benefits –

  • Strengthening our reputation as an area for visitors to enjoy the outdoors
  • Free national publicity and exposure
  • Boosting the local visitor economy
  • Major walking festivals
  • Ensuring that footpaths and facilities for walkers are well maintained
  • Contributing to local tourism plans and attracting regeneration funding

Local retailers, accommodation providers, cafes, pubs, community groups, the Town Council, tourism bodies and anybody promoting walking and physical activity need to come together to agree a plan of action to enable the Oswestry area to join over 50 famous walking area towns that already enjoy Walkers are Welcome status.

Don’t let the Oswestry area lag behind!

For further information about the meeting please contact Peter Dunhill, Shropshire Way Project Officer on 01691 677287 or email
