Tim Ord of Moghill Web Services – An Apprentice’s View
Tim spoke of his experiences as an apprentice, why he chose an apprenticeship over higher education and gave his views on being an apprentice.
Walford & North Shropshire College – Work Experience Placements – Andy Collins
Andy explained about work experience placements through the college, appealing for more businesses to take part as all college students now must undertake 2-6 weeks’ work experience as part of their course.
He explained at length what is involved for all parties and the support that the college give to employers who offer placements.
Anybody interested in offering a placement should contact Andy at the college.
County Training – Employing Apprentices – Laura Havercroft
Laura gave the meeting a rundown of requirements for the County Training Apprenticeship Scheme.
She outlined support offered, including a grant scheme for employers who take on an apprentice for the first time.

Caroline and Alberto Porras gave a slide show and outlined their twin businesses: Woolston House Bed & Breakfast and The Classic Car Hire Company.

Any Other Business
John Pittaway related a cautionary tale about his own recent silent heart attacks and warned everybody to be aware to phone an ambulance if they experience any chest pain.
Events highlighted were:
- Oswestry Live on 6th December (Friday) from 6pm – 9pm. People driving in to Oswestry for the event are advised to get into town early at around 3pm to avoid the rush.
- Bellan House Christmas Fair 4pm – 7pm on Thursday 5th December.
- Hazel Wakefield highlighted an offer from the Scholars Restaurant – £10 for two courses. Also offering people the chance to be a keeper for the day at Walford Campus of WNSC, contact the college for more information on both.
- Jude Robinson highlighted to everybody that it is Small Business Saturday on Saturday 7th December and for everybody to support the initiative.
As this is our Christmas meeting, members were invited to meet in the bar for networking and nibbles.
There is a break for New Year and so the next meeting is on Wednesday 4th February 2014.
